Hilleberg Bivanorak – Green

The Hilleberg Bivanorak was originally developed as a survival tool for Swedish air force pilots, and is a versatile piece of kit that can be used as a bivy bag, sleeping bag cover, rain garment, portable windbreak or emergency shelter, all in a package that weighs just 575 g. When combined with a tarp, it creates a highly effective and incredibly lightweight shelter system.

An innovative, multi-purpose piece of equipment that could prove useful in nearly any outdoor situation, the Bivanorak is made from a tough-yet-lightweight, waterproof and breathable fabric, complete with fully taped seams.

When used as a bivy bag, the long and wide cut provides enough room for both a sleeping mat and sleeping bag. The lower hem and cuffs all feature draw cords which can be secured shut to keep warmth in, and rain and snow out. The long front zipper makes getting in and out of the Bivanorak easy, while the large hood will easily accommodate the hood of a sleeping bag. In colder conditions, the hood can be cinched tightly around the users face.

When used as a rain garment, the Bivanorak can be adjusted to a variety of lengths, as shown in the video below. There is even enough room to carry a backpack underneath. Combine the Bivanorak with a pair of waterproof trousers, and you have superb wet weather protection.

As a temporary shelter, simply pull the Bivanorak out of your pack and climb in. The wind and waterproof material, adjustable cuffs and hem, and generous hood make for a roomy, comfortable refuge! A Bivanorak makes any spot perfect for a lunch break, especially while ski touring.
